Summertime ministry in Oregon and a wonderful Special visitor

We got to spend the last several months in Central Oregon. We parked at a campgrounds and also at a church. Both places were fun and good and had advantages.

We loved parking where there are trees and cool breezes but at the campground it was hard to get work done, as people randomly would stop and chat, thinking that we were either on vacation or retired…Nice, but made it hard for Kent to get office work done.

Scenery from our window at the campground.

So after two weeks we moved into town. A church there allowed us to park on their back parking lot. Kent was able to connect with several churches in the area. He spoke at one to several difference groups and we also connected in another one there. For the short time God really opened doors for ministry.

I got to help the church where we parked out with their landscaping for a month.  I did enjoy that too

A few of the other bushes and areas that I cleaned up. It was fun!

We flew to Arizona for a week for a pastor’s conference. We got to see our dear friends there after the conference. Her I am with Darlene but we also saw her husband Wayne and Don and Kathy. We all had lunch together and then played games all Sunday afternoon. Both of these two couples are a part of a small group that we have been a part of for the past 7 winters. We love them and do miss them when we are gone. We re so grateful for these kinds of friends in our Roaming lifestyle! The picture of the mountain is from that trip. Sometimes you are flying at the right time…Mt Hood as we flew into Portland, Oregon.

When we came back from that trip we moved back to the campground because some newer friends, Dwain and Debbie were coming to camp with us. We all own the same type of rig and truck and so seem to become friends quite easily. We have been friends for about 6 years now. We “find” each other whenever we are close by and at least do lunch or something together.  This time we were together for over a week. Neat! In fact I think they came to camp with us and see a new area of the country too.

We got to do a bunch of things together. A Farmers Market, a car show in town and several other things. It was fun catching up and seeing the new things they have done on their travels and in their rig too.  we are always learning form each other. Dwain had two surgeries in the past year and so seeing him doing so well was good!  Kent has recently had a lot of shoulder pain too, so they both had understanding for the others’ pain. We played games together and just had lots of fun being together.

The second week, our grandson Silas was coming for a visit. He flew alone as an Unaccompanied Minor for the first time! Grandma did a lot of praying for him too.  He flew to Colorado first and visited his aunt Kara, Uncle Nick and Ivan. Then flew again to us for a few days. Debbie allowed us to use her truck to go and get Silas from the airport. That was so kind of her.

We had such fun with Silas and our friends did too. They enjoyed him so much and his sense of humor. It was like having four grandparents instead of two. Debbie made sure Silas didn’t get sunburnt…applying Spray sunscreen. Grandma and grandpa played with him in the pool.

We went swimming together every day and also tubed on the small river near us.When we tubed there was another family that went with us. Here we are waiting to be picked up but still in the water to stay cool. Silas is in the blue shirt/

And every night we all played “Mexican train” a game played with dominoes and another game called Greedy. Silas beat us all several times and was a good sport when he didn’t.

It was such fun and Silas loved every minute and grandma and grandpa too. The days flew by.

The last day Silas was with us we said goodbye to Dwain and Debbie as we moved the rig into the city. He loved that.  He got to see the take down of our house and packing for moving…and then the driving and setting up again.

As grandpa was adjusting things I got this picture. He was very excited!! He got to sit in this seat for most of the trip.

Here is a picture of him first watching the scenery going by and then taking a nap on the bunk…yes that is a net keeping him him safe while he sleeps.

He is growing up so fast that he had questions about new things that he never asked before. So we can certainly see how grown up he is now. And after all he flew in a plane all over the place now. Wow!

When we got to town. Kent’s sister and her grown son met us for dinner. So here is a picture of them.

The night before Silas left us…one last picture on my lap and a picture of him enjoying his new truck that he had bought with his own money. Cute too.

I took him to the airport at 3:30 am for his early flight. He did so well and after I saw the plane in the air…I prayed until I heard from his mom that he was safely with her again. But it was a wonderful visit!!! Thanks coming for a visit Silas!!!  Grandma and Grandpa think you were very brave to come on the airplane by yourself!!! We do hope you will come many more times to be with Grandma and Grandpa..

Love to all,

Jan for the Roaming Reimers

Jan, you must be a magician the way you can change a dry, dusty ground to a beautiful, lush green lawn. I know you really enjoyed the transformation from brown to green!!!
Sorry we missed you while you were in Phoenix. We spent 2 weeks in Gunnison, Colorado fishing with 3 other couples and eating the fish we caught! Lots of fun!

Looks like you two are having an amazing summer. Wish we had been closer to where you two are staying.

Great stuff Jan! I’m also very glad to see that Debbie and Dwain are doing well and still full-timing.
