Wonderful Christmas 2011

We just got back from visiting our son Josh, Teresa and 6 year old Silas. Our daughter Kara and husband Nick joined us on our final flight into Detroit. We flew Christmas eve day and people were in a festive mood as we were. We were feeling very happy too.

We had such a fun time hanging out together. We adults had exchanged names and had fun finding gifts for $20.

Of course we also bought some gifts for Silas. He was about as excited over the winter coat as the legos. He is such a sweet and fun little boy.

Kara had our Christmas stockings that our family used while they were growing up. She brought them with her. That was a fun memory too. Yes we had some for all the newer members of the family too.

We went to church with them on Christmas eve. On Christmas day after our Reimer family time we joined Teresa’s family for their dinner. That was so nice of Teresa’s parents to include our family in their celebration. Teresa has 5 sisters and one brother and many nephews and nieces. So it was a full house.

Josh, Teresa and Kara and Nick all got an evening to go out together and Kent and I were thrilled to be able babysit for Silas. We learned how to play a new video game that Silas already plays well. Here Silas is showing Grandpa how to play.

We also got to celebrate Josh’s college Graduation with a special meal. After starting college in the fall of 1999. this was a great accomplishment. We just got a look at his diploma and he graduated Cum Laude. Way to go, Josh! Teresa is also only one semester away from her Master’s degree as a Nurse Practitioner. She still has a lot to do until graduation in May and she has a different job which also requires a lot of paperwork. So please keep praying for her this semester especially. We are so proud of both of them for their accomplishments.

Kara also was able to make our family’s traditional cookie, Peppernuts with all the kids. Kent pitched in also.

Kara and Nick had to leave to go back to Denver on Wednesday after Christmas, but we are so grateful for Kara encouraging us all to get together for Christmas.

Kent and I got to stay until after the New Year and hang out with the family a bit more.We were again with Teresa’s family for her dad’s birthday on Dec 31st. Since Teresa’s sister Jenny and Johnny with 4 children live next door to Josh and Teresa, we often had fun with their kids too. We went for walks, played together with legos, and even on a Wii games. It sure was fun and we would fall into bed exhausted at the end of each day.

It even snowed a bit for us to go out and play a bit. Silas and I even had a bit of a snowball fight. I am sure you can guess who won that one.

We are sooo grateful for our family and for all of these fun memories. Each time we get to be together is a very special, memorable time! We were reminded of what a treasure we have in that we have our family and we were able to get together. After the losses of this summer of my mother and then my nephew we realize afresh how very special these times are.

So I do pray that you had a good Christmas with your family and that you value each precious time together.

We pray that you have a Wonderful year in 2012.

Jan for the Roaming Reimers.

Sounds like you had a great time! We had the Logan’s here from Asia and our son James from Berlin and, of course Meg’s family who live around the corner so it was a great time with family for us as well. We are keeping the three Logan children for a week while Liz and Jason celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary in Hawaii. We have a renewed appreciation for their job and wonder how they do it.

Kara sure takes after you – great smile 🙂
