Camping with our daughter and son-in-law

May 30, 2010

We came back to Denver on Tuesday and have been hanging out with Kara and Nick. We also needed to see some other friends and Kent had several meetings at WorldVenture.

Kara is done with her teaching for this school year and her classes that she is taking are also done. So we were able to spend Friday together. Kara and Nick had asked us to go “camping” with them and several friends over Memorial Day weekend.

Now you must understand that they go camping a lot and it is most often primitive camping. That means, they have to dig their own latrine, fire pit and carry all their own water. So there are no facilities at all! We do like to camp with our RV house but…their style is a bit more primitive than we like. And we had not tented for a long time, so we considered it because we love spending time with them…but we were hesitant. Well, they had some friends that we going to come later on to camp and so they could lend us a tent and sleeping bags and some warmer clothes. So we decided to go for Friday night as their friends were coming for Saturday night.

We had a wonderful time! We only drove about 1 hour outside of Denver and found a very nice large spot as there were going to be at least three tents and maybe more. We had lunch and then starting putting up the tents. In less than an hour we had all the tent up and unloaded the cars and were looking for firewood. Actually Kent and Nick had found a huge find of firewood. The Forest service had put in a fire road nearby and so there was lots of downed wood there for the taking. Nick had brought his chainsaw and he had lots of fun sawing and splitting the wood. Kent helped him too as you can see here.

Here we are in front of our borrowed tent. Cozy but good!

The others were from Kara and Nick’s church group and we had meet them before. Elsa is a delightful person and she and I had some long talks. Here we are sitting around enjoying the beautiful scenery God has created.

These are wonderful memories of this weekend! We had great time and are grateful to God for yet another time to gather memories. I had such a nice time that I kept forgetting to take pictures.

We left them Saturday afternoon as we had agreed to meet our dear friends Don and Karen for dinner Saturday night. We had a great visit last night and ended our time here with another good memory!

We drive today, Sunday to Grand Junction, Colorado to our RV House and back on the road with it! I must say that after sleeping in a variety of different beds we are very ready for our own. We leave on Monday morning moving towards Boise, Idaho.

Thanks for taking the time to catch up with us.

Hanging out with family

May 28, 2010

We have had such good visits with our family in the last two weeks. The wedding where we saw not only our children but also Kent’s brother’s and families as his sister with his mom and dad. Kent and I stayed with our son Josh and family for a nice long visits. We also drove to visit Kent’s brother Ron and Jan in Ky. So I am including some of the pictures from those fun but short visits.

As you can see we were having so much fun that we didn’t have time to do a blog before this. We are so grateful for these times to see our children and Silas as well as other family members as we don’t know when we will see them again. We are gathering memories.

A Niece’s Wedding

May 23, 2010

Last weekend Kara and Nick flew to Detroit to Josh’s house on Friday night. Saturday we all drove to Northern Indiana for Kent’s brother’s oldest daughter’s wedding. Most of Kent’s family, brothers, wives and children were there. His mom and dad in their 80’s came with Kent’s sister from Washington state. So we are always glad when any of us can get together as we are scattered all over the country. So this was a very special occasion.

Here are a few pictures of the festivities and family time after wards.

In Detroit

May 14, 2010

Yeah, we flew to Detroit on Tuesday and have been having lots of fun with Silas and Josh and Teresa since arriving. I will try to get some pictures and post some tomorrow. But I wanted to let you know what part of the country we were in.

We have also been having fun with Teresa’s sister’s family as Jenny & Jonny live right next door. They share an apartment wall. They have 4 kids now and Eli is Silas’ age. All of the kids like having us come for a visit. We have all gone to the closest playground and had fun together. So we sort of are grandma and grandpa for all of them. Fun fun!

Till tomorrow.

Mother’s Day weekend 2010

May 10, 2010

We are still staying with Kara and Nick. So it is very special to be with our daughter and her husband for Mother’s Day. We try to do helpful things when we are with our kids to make their lives a bit easier for them. So Kara and Nick had a project for us. They share some garden space at Nick’s sister’s house nearby. On Saturday we all went to help get the garden ready. I found some weeds to pull and after Nick took out all of her Iris plants that weren’t blooming, I replanted them. If you know me, you would realize that I love doing stuff like this. So here we are at the garden site.

Also Saturday a dear friend of Kara’s, Libbey that she has known from youth group in Kansas City was getting her Master’s degree. We have known her, her husband and both of their families for years. So Kent, I and Kara went to the reception they were having.

Now ladies you know what I mean about not wanting to show up wearing the exact same thing as someone else…Well, guess what?

Jan and Charlene in same shirt May '10

This is Libbey’s mom and me in the exact same blouse. How odd and it would have been awkward if it hadn’t been someone I’ve known for a long time. ! I just bought this blouse(it is all one piece) and love it. But Charlene also loves hers. We haven’t seen each other for over 3 years so there was definitely nothing planned about this. Funny!

I had a GREAT Mother’s Day. One of the special things was that I was with one of our children as you can see from the pictures… AND… I am about to fly to Detroit to see our son Josh, his wife Teresa and 4 year old Silas. So in some ways you couldn’t have given me a better Mother’s Day.

Kent and I , Kara and Nick went on a 3 mile hike in this really nice park nearby and then had a good picnic lunch.

I love this view and Kara and Nick are quite cute here.

Since Kara and Nick’s house church was coming to their place that night, before leaving we had put a pot roast in the crock pot. So I even got a nap in the afternoon before 12 others joined us for dinner and sharing time. It was fun and enjoyable to meet many new people in their church.

We did get to skype with Josh and Silas for almost an hour last evening too. That is always special! I am so excited to see all of them again tomorrow. So today is laundry and packing.

Well, friends I do hope all you mothers also had a great Mother’s Day!

Denver

May 8, 2010

We are now in Denver and staying with Kara(our daughter) and Nick her husband. We arrived yesterday after crossing the mountains in the snow. We left our RV house in Grand Junction at Kent’s uncle’s house and only drove our little car.

We are seeing spring flowers in bloom and many friends. We will be here until Tuesday when we will be flying to Detroit.

More later,

May 2, 2010

We had a good weekend. We even got out for a hike and a drive. But it was a bit too cold for our outside picnic on Saturday at only 50 degrees outside. But we did appreciate the sun.

In the evening we went to visit our long friends and supporters. It was great to catch up with them and to hear how God is working in their lives. It is wonderful to have friends like this for almost 35 years. We met Tony( the husband) when we had just gotten married and lived in New Jersey. We met Michele after they married a few years later. So they are good friends even though we don’t see each other very often.

On Sunday we went to the same church in town that Kent had met with the pastor for a visit. We were so encouraged by the church and the pastor. He preached a great message from the Word. The church seemed very missions minded. After wards we met a couple that was on the missions committee of the church. They invited us and another couple also very involved and interested in missions to go to lunch. We had a very nice time of learning about them and sharing about WorldVenture’s approach to missionary candidates and churches missions involvement. They seemed to really be encouraged by what Kent shared. We greatly enjoyed meeting them.
